Ambari Metrics Monitor process CPU usage goes up if Collector is down for sometime

PROBLEM: If the Ambari Metrics Collector is down, the Ambari Metrics Monitor processes gradually consume more and more CPU resource until it is using 100% of a single CPU core.

This happens after a couple of days of Collector being down. Attaching log and strace.
