After typo with single quote in impala-shell, it is impossible to get out of it and have to kill -9 it

If one makes a typo with single quote in impala-shell, then it is impossible to get out of it, and have to kill -9 impala-shell. For example:

[localhost:21000] > show tables';
                  > ;
                  > '
                  > ;
