Wrong JAVA_HOME default location for OSX Yosemite

On OSX Yosemite the fallback JAVA_HOME variable with the value /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/${JAVA_VERSION}/Home is not applicable anymore in the shell scripts. Apple is recommending using /usr/libexec/java_home with the -v option if necessary.
