Use StrBuilder instead of StringBuffer to improve performance where sync. is not an issue (Lang 2.x branch)

StrBuilder is an un-synchronized equivalent of StringBuffer. We should eat our own dogfood and use it where synchronization is not an issue in the Lang 2.x branch
