failed at startup in background scanning of projects

the compiler was finding spurious errors so I renamed the cache from 11.3 to broken-11.3. As expected, it took much longer to start up. When the background scan reached 91%, it stopped. I tried to cancel and got a message that I could not. Then I get a bug notice with the attached information.
