Umbrella - Drop jdk 8

This is an umbrella ticket to drop JDK8 support.

We have to give up JDK 8 support to use new language features. In addition, many of the libraries we are using are no longer delivered with JDK-8 support, which in turn can lead to missing features as well as security vulnerabilities.
